Edward C. Beer
17 December 1884 --- 11 May 1927

Ed C. Beer, 42, Eagle Grove, took his life last Wednesday evening. He went to his bedroom after supper Wednesday evening, removed a shoe, placed the barrel of a 12-gauge shotgun against his head and pulled the trigger with his toes. Death must have been instantaneous.

Despondency and brooding over family troubles are the only reasons which can be advanced which caused Mr. Beer to seek to destroy his life. About a year ago Mrs. Beer secured a divorce and since that time her brother, G. Ferguson, and his wife have been making their home at the Beer farm residence. Wednesday evening, they drove to Fort Dodge and returned about 11 o'clock. The lights were on in the house and the smell of smoke was noticeable in the rooms. They immediately searched the house for the cause and found Mr. Beer's body in his bedroom. They called Dr. Christensen, who immediately notified Dr. Walker, county coroner. The coroner pronounced it a clear case of suicide and it was decided no inquest was necessary.

The entire community was shocked and grieved over Mr. Beer's death. He was an honest, straight forward, square dealing man, successful in his farming and stock raising business, a good neighbor, and a good citizen. The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved relatives. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Foil & Wilson funeral parlor and burial was in the Troy cemetery.
