A memorial service for Penny Sue (Lenning) Goates, 59, of Swea City will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Bancroft. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Humane Society.

Penny Sue (Lenning) Goates was born August 30, 1961, in Hawarden, Iowa the daughter of Edwin and Patsy (Frost) Lenning. She grew up in the Hawarden and moved to Goldfield where she attended Goldfield Community School. After receiving her GED for Eagle Grove High School in 1979 she moved to Salt Lake City, UT where she attended the Salt Lake City Community College for 2 years where she studying to be a Paralegal. She worked for Eastern Airlines in Salt Lake City and as a Paralegal for a Law Firm in Clear Lake.

She was united in marriage to Kent Douglas Goates on June 16, 1979, in Salt Lake City. To this union, they had three children, Walker Ryan, Cory Douglas, and Candice Marie. They later divorced.

Penny enjoyed watching movies, and TV, traveling while working for the airline, and being with family. Her favorite job was being a mother and grandmother. She loved her cat Mason.

Penny died Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Kossuth Reginal Health Center. She was 59.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Candice Marie Buchanan of Connelly Springs, NC and Walker Ryan (Heidi Miller) Goates of Meservey, IA; grandchildren, Mikayla, Kori, and Carter Buchanan, Ava and Aubri Goates, and Kyra, Kymber, Kamryn Miller; siblings, Deb (Ray) Govern of Bancroft, David (Toni) Lenning of Salt Lake City, UT, Charles Lenning of Goldfield, Patricia (Rhonda Prelip) Lenning of Thornton, and Edwin (Tricia Krieger) Lenning of Clarion; and nieces and nephews.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, Kent Goates; son, Cory Douglas Goates, son-in-law, Mickey Buchanan, and sister-in-law, Rita Lenning.
