April 12, 1913 --- November 15, 1950

Ferne Lucille Smith Mortimer, born April 12, 1913, near Thor, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, died suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 15 at her home in Ames. She attended Sunday School and was confirmed in her Christian faith at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. She attended the public schools of Eagle Grove, including Junior college, and went onto Drake University, and taught school several years. Following her marriage to J. Randall Mortimer February 12, 1949, she and her husband have resided at Ames.

Surviving are her husband, her parents, and three sisters: Mrs. E. R. Cole of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. R. F. Pettis of Hastings, Neb., and Mrs. William Gross of Eagle Grove. Also by three nephews and one niece.

A prayer service in Ames at 10:30 Saturday, Nov. 18, 1950, was followed by a 2 o'clock funeral service at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth R. Torvik, with a sermon by the Rev. G. W. Lokensgard of Des Moines. Interment followed at Rose Hill cemetery in Eagle Grove.
