Vernice Leone Tanner, 73, of Eagle Grove, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Ray Salemink, of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial followed the service in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Vernice Leone Tanner was born August 19, 1931, in Humboldt Township, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Amanda (Weiss) Kuehnast. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Humboldt High School On November 26, 1950, she married Frank H. Tanner at Humboldt. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1954. Vernice was an active member of the Missouri Synod, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, serving as an organist for 50 years and member of the Ladies Aide, also serving as an officer. She was also a member of the Rotary Ann Auxiliary and the A Sharp Music Club.

She is survived by her husband, Frank H. Tanner, of Eagle Grove; six children: Judy Tanner of West Liberty; Ron Tanner, and his wife, Sharon, of Eagle Grove; their daughter, Brandy, and grandson, Dakota, of Clarion; Barb Tanner, of Clarion; Bill Tanner and his wife, Cindy, and their children Jessica and Jeremy and grandson Trey, of Miami, Okla.; Tom Tanner and his wife, Luanne, of Webster City; and their children Cole of Kansas City, Mo.; Brittany, of Belmond; and Jordan, of Webster City; and Chris Tanner and his wife, Stefani, and their children Matthew and Hanna of Des Moines; and a brother, Marvin Kuehnast and his wife, Doris, of Humboldt; and their children Sandra, Kathy, Cindy, and Brent. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
