Thomas H. Johnson // Thore Haldorson Nodland

The sad news reached the Ole Byro family Saturday that Mrs. Byro's father, Thos. H. Johnson, had died in the hospital at Fort Dodge. Mr. Johnson had gone there for treatment. His death was unexpected. When informed of his death, Mrs. Byro immediately sent Mr. Kubitschek to Fort Dodge to take charge of the remains which were brought to Eagle Grove and prepared for burial. The surviving relatives have the sympathy of their hosts of friends in the hour of their sorrow.

Obituary
Thomas H. Johnson (Thore Nodland) was born to Mr. and Mrs. Haldor Johnson at Shefeland, Stavanger, Norway, July 25, 1844. He died at the hospital in Fort Dodge August 15, 1925, 81 years old.

Funeral services were held at the East Side Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Oakdale, Rev. Holm and Rev. Spande had charge of the services.

Within two years of age he moved with his parents to Halsne, Norway. In 1866 he came to U. S. A. to the Fox River settlement, Ottawa, Ill. He was married to Bertha J. Hauske in 1867. They first lived in Lee county, Illinois, then in Nebraska, then in Illinois again and then near Badger, Iowa. He was back to Norway five different times. Twice he bought farms over there, first Nodland, then Hatletveit and at each place he lived for some years. They came from Norway the last time in 1917. Since that time they have lived here.

His much devoted wife preceded him in death Jan. 11 this year. Since then he has made his home with his two daughters here. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had 11 children born to them, three died in infancy and eight are living: Emma Byro, Malta. Ill.; Henry Nodland, Blue Earth, Minn.; Marie Byro, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Joseph Nodland, Skyburg, Minn.; Bertha Aukland, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Thomas Nodland, Frost. Minn.; Arthur Nodland, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Salvie Nodland of Minnesota. There are 32 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two sisters. Burial was at the Rose Hill cemetery.
