31 August 1878 ---- 13 July 1960

August Grandgeorge, son of August and Louise Grandgeorge, was born March 31, 1878 in Wildersback, [Waldersbach], Alsace-Lorraine, France and passed from this life on July 14 at the Sisson Nursing Home in Humboldt at the age of 82. In infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. When he was 14 years of age he came with his parents to the United States and lived on a farm in the Woolstock community.

On Dec. 23, 1903 he was united in marriage to Mary Emma Raver in Des Moines. To this union were born seven children, two daughters and five sons.

He farmed until 1917 when he became owner and operator of the By-Products Co. until his retirement. Mr. Grandgeorge and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in December 1953.

In December of 1958 he suffered a stroke and has been in failing health since that time. The past four months he has made his home with his daughter Josephine and family.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mary; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Madison of Woden; Mrs. Arthur Root of Waterloo; four sons, Ernest of Iowa Falls; Harold of Iowa Falls; Francis of Badger; and Dale of Van Nuys, Calif. Also, by two brothers, Ernest and Henry Grandgeorge and two sisters, Mrs. Emil Mourlam and Mrs. Charles Grandgeorge. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eugene and a son, Edward.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Sacquety Chapel. Rev. Leonard Root, a grandson of Mr. Grandgeorge, officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
