Mary Jane Jensen Culter
26 June 1900 --- 21 August 1959

Mary Jane, daughter of Simon (Sam) and Ellen Jensen, was born in Eagle Grove on North Wright Street, June 26, 1900 and died August 21, 1959 at the Askvig Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 59 years, 1 month, and 26 days.

She became a member of the Methodist church at a very young age, having been baptized in Toledo, Iowa, in about 1913 by the United Brethren minister, who married her mother and father. Mary was always active in Sunday school, Epworth League, Joy Circle, and all church activities.

Upon graduating from the Eagle Grove school as an honor student, she received a four-year scholarship to the University of Iowa. She graduated from there in 1926 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in mathematics.

Mary taught mathematics for 25 years in various schools throughout Iowa and Wisconsin. She loved to work with young folks in church and school groups.

Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star in 1920 and remained a member until about 3 years ago.

She was married June 4, 1938 to Vergne Culter who she met in school at Iowa City.

Mary had been ill for the last 7 or 8 years and had been cared for the last 3 months by Carrie Askvig.

She is survived by her husband, Vergne Culter, and three sisters, Mable Lindsay, Eagle Grove, Alice Christensen, Eagle Grove, Luella Olson, Monmouth, Ill, ten nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
