Vergne M. Culter funeral Wednesday
Vergne M. Culter, 74, was found dead in his home Monday noon and death is attributed to natural causes. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Forbes officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Culter is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Harvey of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Jacobs of Kellogg. Mr. Culter had been a resident of Eagle Grove since 1956 and his late wife was the former Mary Jane Jensen of Eagle Grove who died in 1959. He was a former school teacher and salesman and since moving here was better known as a wood carver and sculpturer. At the time of his death he had been teaching classes in wood carving at the Fort Dodge Community College.

OBITUARY
Vergne Martine Culter, son of Charles and Mary Culter, was born in Fairfield, Ia., February 23, 1899 and was baptized in the Christian faith, October 12, 1912. He received his education in Indianola and later graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City and also received one year of training in R. O. T. C. in Iowa City. He was married to Lucille Reynolds and to this union one daughter, Barbara, was born. In 1938 he was married to Mary Jane Jensen of Eagle Grove. They made their home in Madison, Wisc., several years, where he taught physics, later moving to Iowa Falls where they lived a number of years before moving to Eagle Grove in 1956. Mrs. Culter died in 1959.

Vergne was an avid wood carver, sculpturer and artist, having received many awards for his work. At the time of his death he was teaching classes in carving at the Fort Dodge Community College. He was also a member of the Boone River Area Art Guild of Webster City and secretary of his Sunday School class the United Methodist Church for many years. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge. He had been a salesman for Rawleigh Products in this area many years.

Vergne was found dead in his home Monday noon, February 11, 1974. Death was due to natural causes. He was 74 years, 11 months, and 15 days of age at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Jane. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Barbara Harvey of Mesa, Ariz.; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Jacobs of Kellogg.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, with Rev. Donald L. Forbes officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
