Millard Dewitt Braden
16 December 1855 ---- 26 April 1928

M. D. BRADEN FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY P. M.

Wright County Pioneer Passed Away After Several Months Struggle With Diabetes.

M. D. Braden died at his home on South Commercial Avenue Thursday April 26, 1928. He had been a sufferer for several months from an attack of diabetes, which the physicians in attendance were unable to check. He was patient, and thoughtful of the welfare of others to the very last.

Mr. Braden was one of the original settlers in this section, having moved onto his farm in Troy township in the late seventies. He was several times honored by his fellow citizens with positions of trust and there is genuine regret over his untimely passing. The following appropriate obituary was read at the funeral services by his pastor, Rev. W. G. Muhleman.

Obituary

Millard Dewitt Braden was born December 16, 1855, in Bradensville, Westmoreland county, Penn.

On October 10, 1874, when he was only 19 years of age, he came to Iowa and settled first at Goldfield. Six months later he moved to Renwick, Iowa, then known as Luna. On December 19, 1878, he united in marriage to Sadie Odenheimer. To this union five children were born, Milford, Lottie, Herbert, Mamie, and Elizabeth. Two have passed to the great beyond, Milford at the age of 21 years and Lottie at the age of three years.

Soon after he was married the husband and wife moved to Troy township near Eagle Grove where they resided till they moved to their farm near Eagle Grove in 1896. In 1910 he moved with his family to Eagle Grove where he lived till the time of his death on April 26, 1928. At the time of his going he was 72 years, four months, and 10 days old.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and three children, Herbert of Ree Heights, S. D., Mrs. Geo. Bawn of Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Mrs. C. A. Richardson of Renwick, Iowa, also five grandchildren, and a host of friends, also an only brother seven years older at Latrobe, Pa., who is the lone survivor of a family of eleven children.

This brief is the life story of a good man who was one of the few remaining settlers of Iowa. In his early days he herded cattle over the prairies. He was in Eagle Grove long before there was a railroad here. Brother Braden has been a member of the Methodist church for many years. Our own records show that his membership was transferred to the church from the Troy church in 1907. In addition to what others say about the integrity of his character in his business dealings, the pastor of this church is glad to add to it by saying that in the eight years he has known Brother Braden he has found him to be a sincere Christian. During his illness the pastor made many calls on this good man and talked, read, and prayed with him and always found him ready to receive and to participate in the services held for him. One of the unforgettable services was when the pastor and Brother W. E. Warnes went to the home and administered the last Sacrament of the Lord's Supper to him. He was always so interested in the progress of the building of the new church and read or listened with interest and gladness to every progress. It is quite fitting, therefore, that his should be the first funeral services held in the completed new church.

He also belonged to the M. W. of A. Yeoman and the I.O.O.F.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. The pastor, W. G. Muhleman preached the sermon. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
