Kenneth Elmer Soppeland
11 January 1910 ---- 21 October 1992

Kenneth Elmer Soppeland was born January 11, 1910, the son of Lewis and Anna Matilda Gord Soppeland, in Humboldt County. He received his education in the Dakota City schools. He was united in marriage to Mary Litchfield. Following her death in 1947, he married Edith Van Horn Hanes of Humboldt on October 14, 1948, at Corning, Ark. The couple made their home in Humboldt where he worked as a mechanic for Otto
Schultz in Dakota City. After moving to Eagle Grove in 1965, he was employed as a mechanic with the Umthun Trucking Company in Eagle Grove. He retired in 1972.

Kenneth Soppeland died at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City, following an extended illness on October 21, 1992. He had attained the age of 82 years, nine months, and 10 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary; two brothers, Junior Duane and Lawrence, and a sister, Bernice Hendren. He is survived by his wife, Edith; son, Marvin, of Mason City; a stepson, Robert Hanes of Ankeny; a daughter, Mary Ann Johnson of Humboldt; step-daughters, Mrs. Ron (Mary Jane) Jensen, and Mrs. David (Ellen) Hackbarth, both of Eagle Grove; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin of St. Louis, Mo., and a sister, Edna Blackburn of Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 23, 1992, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Lyle Peters of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services. Burial was held in the Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
