Bernie Olie Nervig
September 9, 1907 --- January 26, 1985

Bernie Olie Nervig, the son of Ole and Bertha Remson Nervig, was born on Sept. 9, 1907 at Silverton, Ore. The family moved to Iowa when he was a small child and settled on a farm near Thor, where he grew up and attended the rural school near the family farm. He farmed in the Thor area for several years. He was united in marriage with Anna Labus on June 26, 1936 at Eagle Grove and they lived on a farm near Thor until 1942 when they moved to Eagle Grove. From 1943 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

After receiving his discharge, he returned to Eagle Grove and was a mechanic at the Christensen Motors garage until his poor health forced him to retire in 1963. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines of a heart condition on Saturday night, Jan. 26, 1985 at the age of 77 years, four months and 17 days.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Labus Nervig of Eagle Grove, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bernie Nervig, 77, Eagle Grove, were held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home with Rev. Carlton Shaw, pastor of the Samuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove and visitation was held on Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
