Lena Bertina Thompson Walker
4 September 1883 ---- 13 March 1953

Lena Bertina Thompson, daughter of Eric and Maggie Thompson, was born near Rochelle, Illinois, on September 4, 1883. She was baptized in infancy and received the usual instruction in the Christian Faith and was confirmed in the Lutheran church. She passed away Friday March 13, 1953 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lutheran hospital, Fort Dodge, Ia.

At an early age she came with her parents to Holmes, Iowa. She attended the public school there and also received her Christian instruction at Holmes Evangelical Lutheran church of which her family were members.

April 12, 1911 she was united in marriage to John Walker. They lived on a farm near Holmes, Iowa, until they moved to Eagle Grove in 1921 and has since been a resident of that community.

Mrs. Walker was a member of Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church and a member of Samuel Lutheran Mission Aid. She was a faithful member and was always a cheerful and willing worker in the congregation and Mission Aid.

Her much loved family will always treasure her memory. She was a devoted sister and always had their spiritual interests on her heart. Her love and interest for them, made her advice and admonitions acceptable, and appreciated.

She was patient during her long and painful illness. She often remarked that her suffering was insignificant compared to the suffering of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who suffered and died that she might be saved. She made much use of the Grace of God and declared that His Grace was sufficient.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Isabel Thompson and Mrs. Sten Wagner. She is survived by five sisters, Josephine of Minneapolis, Minnie (Mrs. Raymond Long), Esther (Mrs. Orville Joseph) of Goldfield. Iowa, Mabel (Mrs. Anfin Asbe) and Mary of Des Moines, Iowa, one brother Bert also of Des Moines, and seven nephews and five nieces.

Funeral services were held from Kastler Funeral Home on Tuesday March 17, at 1:30 p.m. and from Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church at 2:00 p.m. Pastor B. F. Molstre officiated. Mr. Paul Hakinson and Stanton Benson, nephews of Mrs. Walker, sang at the funeral home and at the church. A ladies quartette, Mrs. Carl Sunner, Mrs. Eddie Thompson, Mrs. H. B. Thompson, and Mrs. Helen Coltvet sang at the church. Casket bearers were Merle Asbe, Orville Joseph, Gerryd Post, Elmer Wagner, Leslie Wagner, and Archie Wagner. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
