John Christiansen “Jens” Brown
29 June 1845 --- 8 January 1925

John Brown, father of James, George, and Gusta Brown of Eagle Grove and Engineer Harry Brown of Clarion, was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery Saturday afternoon. For many years Mr. Brown was a faithful employee of the Northwestern. He was pensioned several years ago with an exceptional ability record of efficient service to his credit. He was respected and honored by all who knew him, and the relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.

John C. Brown was born at Konigsberg, [Kongsberg] Norway June 29, 1845. He passed away Jan. 8, 1925 at [non legible] Iowa avenue, Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, and 6 months. He was educated for the army. In 1871 he was married to Miss Jorgine Larson. They came to America in 1881 and settled in Jewell, Iowa. In the year 1890 they moved to Eagle Grove, where he for many years was foreman at the C. & N. W. repair tracks.

Eight children were born to them. Two died in infancy and four sons and two daughters are living, James, George and Gusta, of Eagle Grove, Harry of Clarion, Iowa, Mrs. Edith Oleson, of Bricelyn, Minn., and Fred of Dilworth, Minn.

A Christian father to his home and to his church has left us. An unusually large congregation had gathered to his funeral from the West Side Lutheran church Saturday, Jan. 10th. His nephew, Rev. Sunner, of Soldier, Iowa, spoke in Norse and Pastor Spande in English.

Interment was made at Rose Hill cemetery beside his dear wife who preceded him by about eight weeks.
