Even Hoiekvam Olson
25 December 1850 ---- 12 July 1930

Even Olson was born Dec. 25, 1850 at Hoiekvam, Sandeid, Norway, and died at the Mercy hospital, Fort Dodge, Iowa, July 12, 1930, age 79 years, six months, and 17 days. He was baptized into Christ in infancy, receiving Christian instruction and confirmed in his youth. Soon after his confirmation he went to sea which was the common experience of the young men of his community. The constant dangers of a sailor helped to impress his Christian instruction upon his heart, and he decided to live his entire life with his Savior, Jesus Christ, a promise which he by the grace of God, kept to the end of his days.

In 1875 he was united in marriage to Miss Soneva Johnson and in 1883 emigrated to the United States, coming to Story county, Iowa, where he remained for a year. In the spring of 1884, he came with his family to Wright county, which has been his home since. Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. Martha Olson, Kanawha; John Olson, Fowler, Mont.; Mrs. Selina Sorenson, Clemmensville, N.D.; Mrs. Marie Lawson, Eagle Grove; Carl Olson, Ames; Edwin Olson, Windsor, N.D.; Joseph Olson, Jewell. Mrs. Olson died here in Eagle Grove, July 16, 1896.

On March 6, 1906 he was again united in marriage to Miss Anna Larson, who now, together with the seven children mourn the loss of a kind father and husband. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He has one brother and one sister still living in Norway, also two brothers Knut of Binford, N.D. and Marcus of Sioux Falls, S.D. and one sister, Mrs. Ole Gunderson of Eagle Grove.

Mr. Olson was a very quiet and kind man. We cannot think of any word which better describes him than “He was Faithful”. For we knew him to be faithful in all things: to his family, to his friends, to his church, and to his God. He was one of the charter members of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, which he helped to organize in 1884, the same year he came to Wright county. He was a member of the first board of trustees of the congregation. For over [non legible] of the church and a more faithful, accurate and accommodating caretaker the church never had. He had the implicit confidence of all, both young and old. He suffered much during his last sickness but passed away quietly trusting his Savior.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 15 from the home and from the Eagle Grove Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
