Kent Eugene Whyte was born July 26, 1928, the son of Kenneth and Charolette Richardson Whyte at Goldfield. He received his education in the Goldfield school system and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1946.

Following high school, he attended Iowa State College, Ames, for a period of one year. He entered the U. S. Navy, where he qualified for Officers Training School at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., graduating in 1951.

He was united in marriage to Joanne Anderson of Los Angeles, Calif., June 17, 1956, at Los Angeles, Calif. Following his marriage, he furthered his education by attending the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey, Calif. He then received his Masters degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Va.

Following his honorable discharge from active service with the rank of Commander, he returned, to Goldfield, where he raised his family and was employed at Whyte & Sons, Goldfield, and then as an insurance representative for various insurance companies in the area.

He was a member of the Lake Lutheran Church, and held the offices of chairman and vice chairman of the Church, as well as having taught Sunday School classes. Other memberships include the Navy League of the United States, the Masons and White Shrine, the American Legion, Goldfield Lions Club, past chairman of the Wright County Board of Health, the Wright County Republican Party, and a member of the Fort Dodge Life Underwriters.

Kent Whyte died January 16, 1991 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, at the age of 62 years, five months, and 20 days.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Charolette [Charlotte], and an infant son, Eric Kent.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Capt. Keith Whyte, U.S.A.F., Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Scott (Kristin) Radechel, Goldfield; Mrs. Scott (Wendy) Axon, Ankeny; and Mrs. Rodney (Kathryn) Dunn, Stafford, Va.; three grandchildren; his father, Kenneth; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Marilyn) Wilson, both of Goldfield.

Funeral services were held at the Lake Lutheran Church Monday, Jan. 21. The Rev. Oliver Everson officiated at the 10 a.m. services, and a full military burial followed at the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
