Bertha Ann Whisler Laughlin
4 April 1907 ---- 14 October 1996

Ann Laughlin, 89 of Dows, died Monday, October 14, 1996 at the Dows Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 16 from the Elledge Funeral Home in Dows. Rev. James Lusher officiated the service. The body was cremated and burial will follow at a later date.

Bertha Ann Whisler was born April 4, 1907 in Unionville, the daughter of Walter and Frankie Morrison Whisler. She was raised and educated in Udell, Iowa and graduated from Udell Consolidated School. After high school, she was employed as a dietitian for the children's hospital at the University Hospital in Iowa City. She later moved to Dows and on December 25, 1928 was united in marriage to William H. Laughlin, Jr. at the home of his parents. After their marriage she worked with her husband at the Dows Variety Store.

On March 2, 1979 her husband passed away. She remained in her home in Dows until April 24, 1984 when she entered the Dows Health Care Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are one son, William H. III and wife Lorraine of Burlington, Iowa; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and four sisters.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and ladies aid society of Dows, Dows Liberty Club and was very active in the Red Cross.
