Ruby F. Lawson Laughlin
3 July 1886 ---- 14 November 1972

Mrs. Ruby F. Laughlin, 86, a well known Dows resident, died on Tuesday afternoon at Golden Acres Manor in Dows. For many years, Mrs. Laughlin and her husband operated the Dows Variety and Grocery Store. She had lived at Golden Acres since shortly after it was opened.

Funeral services were held on Thursday morning from the Willim Funeral Home and the Rev. W. O. Niles was in charge. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Born on July 3, 1886 at Kinmundy, Illinois she was the daughter of Richard and Jennie Simpson Lawson. She was raised and educated at Effingham, Illinois where she was married to William Laughlin on December 28, 1904.

In 1909 they came to Dows and were associated with the E.G. Westerman Company until 1913 when they opened the Dows Variety and Grocery Company. After the death of Mr. Laughlin in 1952, Mrs. Laughlin continued to be active in the business until her retirement in 1964.

She is survived by one son and two daughters: William Jr. of Dows; Mrs. Carl (Ardith) Hudnall of Chillicothe, Missouri and Mrs. Sybil Denger of Lancaster, California. She is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and one brother.

Mrs. Laughlin was a charter member of the Liberty Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in past years.
