Arthur Garrett “Art” Elings
6 June 1916 ---- 11 October 1991

Funeral services for Arthur Garrett Elings, 75, of Dows, were held from the Presbyterian Church in Dows on October 14, 1991. Dr. John Mann officiated and burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Military rites were conducted by the Watson-Beach Post #523 of the American Legion.

Art Elings was born June 6, 1916 in Fort Dodge, the son of Garrett and Grace Frye Elings. He died October 11, 1991 at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since October 6th.

He moved to Dows as an infant and lived with his grandparents and graduated from Dows High School in 1935. He moved to Jefferson and worked as an electrician until entering the military in 1941. After his discharge in 1945, he came back to Dows and worked for Frye Electric. On October 21, 1945 he was united in marriage to Lela Wilaby at the home of her parents in Dows. After the death of Emile Frye, Art became self-employed until retiring in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Lela of Dows; one son, Donald of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters: Mrs. Gertrude Ingalls of Rochester, Minnesota and Mary Elings of Aredale. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.

He was a member of the Dows Presbyterian Church and Watson-Beach Post of the American Legion.
