Anna Marie Godfreysen Nelson
20 September 1852 ---- 2 November 1929

Early Saturday, Mrs. Fred Nelson died at her home here after a short illness. She had been in fairly good health until the first of the week when she took critically ill. Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon and Rev. R. M. McCracken had charge of the service. The burial service was held at the cemetery [Rose Hill] at Eagle Grove.

Ann Marie Larson was born in Rudkjobing, [Rudkøbing] Langeland, Denmark, Sept. 20, 1852. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the age of 14 and has always remained firm in her belief.

On June 7, 1876 she was married to Christen Hansen and to this union four children were born: Anina, John, Matilda, and Augusta. The son, John, preceded her in death in 1912.

In 1889 the family came to America and located near Goldfield, Iowa. Some 18 months later she was left a widow with no relatives and not many friends, “A stranger in a strange land”.

Later she was married to Frederick Nelson of the Evergreen district. To this union one son was born, Arvig C. Nelson. In 1924 she was again left a widow. Since that time, she has made her home with her daughter, Anina in Goldfield.

She had been in her usual health until a few days before her death, when she was suddenly taken ill and failed rapidly, passing away at 12:30 Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 1929 at the age of 77 years, one month, and 12 days.

She leaves to mourn her death, her three daughters, her son, Arvig, and three stepsons, Nels S. Nelson, Lauritz N., and Geo. F. Nelson and seven grandchildren.

Out-of-town people in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. August Larsen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Arvig Nelson of Mason City; Leland Hansen of Sheldon; Miss Astra Erickson and Geo. Erickson of Humboldt, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jergenson and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jergenson of Eagle Grove.
