“Grandpa” Whyte died at the home of his son Geo. Whyte Monday evening and was buried yesterday afternoon, the funeral being held at the house. Rev. Comin of the Presbyterian church taking charge of the services. For a number of years, he has been gradually suffering and for the past few weeks has been confined to his bed. His death was caused principally from old age and the end had been expected for several days.

George Wilson Whyte was born in Kirriemuir, Forfarshire, Scotland, December 21, 1831, and died in Goldfield, Iowa, March 26, 1917 at 9:15 p. m.

He grew to manhood in Scotland and was united in marriage to Miss Jane McMann, December 21, 1855. To this union was born one child, George W. Whyte of this place.

With his wife and boy, he landed in America, March 23, 1870 and settled in the Scottish settlement near Traer, Tama County, Iowa.

When the railroad was built as far west as Reinbeck, he moved to that place and was one of the first business open there. He resided there until 1899 when he moved to Goldfield on account of his failing health, and has lived here mainly ever since.

He leaves a devoted wife, a sister in Scotland, one son, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his departure.

Mr. and Mrs. Whyte were members of the first church built in Reinbeck, Union Congregational, where their membership still remains.

George W. Whyte, familiarly known as Grandpa Whyte, died Monday evening March 26th, at the advanced age of 86 years. He has been in very poor health and the end was not unexpected. He leaves a wife and one son to mourn his loss.

The funeral was held at the home of his son George Whyte on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Comin.
