Zepha Mae Kenney
January 1885 ---- August 13, 1906

Miss Zepha Kenney Dies Suddenly at Rochester, Minnesota. Heaven's Gates Opened by a Lovely Soul.

This city was shocked Monday evening by the sad intelligence that Miss Zepha Kenney had died at the hospital at Rochester at 2:30 p.m. The news was utterly unexpected, as all previous reports were of the most encouraging character. She had recovered nicely from a serious surgical operation for the removal of a goiter and both the physicians and her mother were cheered with her apparent rapid and sure recovery.

The operation was performed Saturday. She went there the Monday previous with her mother and brother and every assurance was given of a successful operation and complete recovery. She was thought to be doing unexpectedly well, and had even sat up a few times, when suddenly, without premonition, the heart ceased, its beating and the lovely soul of Zepha Kenney had taken its flight to the spirit world.

The body arrived here Tuesday morning and the funeral was held on the lawn of the Kenney home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. A. C. Zellhoefer conducted the services preaching an inspiring sermon from the text "The flower fadeth."

There were floral tributes in profusion from young schoolmates, friends, church, and Sunday school.

The bearers were young men, high school alumni, of which the deceased was a member, having graduated in 1901.

Miss Zepha was born at Webster City in January 1885 and came to Eagle Grove with her parents seven years ago. After graduating from our high school, she taught school five terms and then took a position as sales and office lady. She was a member of the Baptist church, being the organist of the school and presided at the organ the Sunday before going to Rochester. She was an active worker in church and Sunday school, a lovely character, winning the affection of all who knew her. She was a musician of rare culture, the light and joy of her home, a ray of God's pure sunshine warming and cheery everywhere.

The entire circle of her acquaintance mingles its tears of sorrow with those of the stricken home and relatives.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A. Hoover of Des Moines, and Mr. and Mrs. Richardson and family of Renwick. The interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
