Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Loobey, who died July 6, were held last Saturday at the Baptist church in Goldfield. Mrs. Loobey was 82 years of age at the time of her death.

She was the daughter of Hannah and S. P. Southwick and was born at Anamosa Mar. 22, 1867. She grew to womanhood in Olin, Iowa and then came to this county and taught school near Corwith.

On Feb. 1, 1890 she was united in marriage to Nathan Loobey at Algona. They lived on a farm east of Renwick for many years, later moving to Goldfield in March, 1912. Four children were born to this union.

Both Mrs. Loobey and her husband were members of the Baptist church. She attended the services of the church as long as her health permitted. She was Sunday school superintendent for 11 years and was a member of the Women's Mission circle. She was also a member of the W. C T. U., Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah lodge.

Mrs. Loobey’s husband preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1923. She is survived by two sons, Hal of Chicago and Verne of San Francisco; two daughters, Mrs. Elva Vest of Goldfield and Mrs. Ocey Loobey of Long Beach, Calif. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mattie Ballou of Olin.

The Rev. M. L. Christensen was in charge of the funeral, assisted by the Reverends L. G. Williams of Goldfield and I. D. Halvorson of Elkhorn. Burial was in the Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Mrs. Bertha Loobey daughter of Hannah and S. P. Southwick, was born at Anamosa, Iowa on March 22, 1867 and departed this life at her home at Goldfield, Iowa July 6, 1949, having reached the age of 82 years, 3 months and 14 days.

Rev. M. L. Christenson was in charge of the funeral services assisted by the Rev. L. G. Williams of Goldfield and Rev. I. D. Halverson of Elkhorn, Iowa. She was laid to rest Saturday, July 9 in the Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Those attending the services from a distance were Hal Loobey of Chicago, Mrs. Ocey Loobey, Long Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Saccento and Irene of New York City, Dr. and Mrs. Don Vest of Alexander, Mrs. Mattie Ballou and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ballou of Olin, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Green of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rummel of Anamosa, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Paulson of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Southwick of Fort Dodge.
