21 April 1891 ---- 29 July 1926Death Thursday night claimed Lee L. Parker, 5116 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, at a Sioux City hospital following an illness of one week. Mr. Parker was yard foreman for the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Omaha Railway company.
He was born at Sioux Rapids. Iowa, 35 years ago, and at the age of 6 years moved with his parents to Eagle Grove, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1909. He graduated from Culver Military academy in 1911 with highest honors in the class.
The remains arrived from Sioux City early Sunday morning and were taken to the Foil & Wilson Undertaking parlor to await the arrival of Don Parker, who has been spending the summer in California. However, he was unable to get here in time for the funeral which was held Monday afternoon. Lee was a brilliant student in school and college and was rapidly winning promotion with the railroad company by whom he was employed. There is genuine regret that his life could not have been spared and the sincerest sympathy of everybody is extended the bereaved families.
Obituary
Leslie Lee Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Parker, was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, April 21, 1891. At the age of six years, he moved with his parents to Eagle Grove where he lived until he graduated from the high school in 1909. He then attended Culver Military academy at Culver, Ind., and graduated with highest honors in 1911.
On March 25. 1914, he was united in marriage to Mabel Berkland of Vincent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Berkland. They moved to Bow Island, Alberta, Canada, and after a brief stay returned to Eagle Grove, where he entered the employ of the C. & N. W. R. R. as switchman. In 1917 they moved to Sioux City where Mr. Parker later became foreman of the yards for the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis, & Omaha Railway Company. He remained in this position till the time of his death.
In 1917 Mr. Parker joined Co. K of the Iowa National Guard and was sent to Brownsville, Texas, and served in the machine gun corps of the Iowa Infantry during the trouble on the Mexican border.
Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Parker, LaRoy, aged 10, and LaVonne, aged 3 years.
He was a member of the B of R T and of Grace Methodist Episcopal church of Morningside.
He passed away after one week’s illness, on July 29, 1926 at the age of 35 years, 3 months, and 8 days.
He is survived by his wife, their two children, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Parker of Eagle Grove and one brother, Donald V. Parker, of Berkeley, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Eagle Grove Methodist church. At the request of Mr. Parker before his death, Mrs. Ella M. Jennings, a close friend of the family, assisted with the music by singing a solo. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery
