Alfred John Nelson
27 July 1851 ---- 26 January 1932Alfred John Nelson was born on July 27, 1851, at Gottenborg, [Goteborg] Sweden, and died Jan. 26, 1932, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Vern McIntyre in Eagle Grove, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 30 days.
He was baptized into Christ Jesus in infancy in the Lutheran church, received instruction and confessed his Christian faith in the church of his childhood.
On Sept. 10, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Christine Johnson. Seven daughters and two sons were born to this union. One of the sons, Carl, preceded his father in death, in June 1925.
Mr. Nelson came to the United States to Dows, Iowa, in 1882, where they lived for many years, coming to Eagle Grove about 33 years ago. Mrs. Nelson passed away here in Eagle Grove, April 2, 1911. Mr. Nelson is now survived by the following: Mrs. Emma Baker, Ida Nelson, Mrs. Lotta Young, Mrs. Victoria McIntyre, Mrs. Clara Cousins, Mildred Nelson, Nancy Nelson, and Arthur Nelson, also by five grandchildren and by eight greatgrandchildren, and by one brother.
Mr. Nelson was a very quiet and unassuming man, industrious, and dependable. A trusted friend and a good neighbor, it was not difficult to become friendly with him. It was our privilege, to know him personally for several years, and to minister to him on his last brief sickbed. He was not sick very long, was satisfied with his lot, and slept away peacefully.
Funeral services were held from the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home Thursday afternoon, Jan. 28. Burial was made in the family lot beside the remains of his wife in Rosehill cemetery.
