Anna Martha Hanson Lier Berkland
10 April 1855 ---- 27 January 1926

The funeral services for Mrs. Anna Martha Berkland, mother of Andrew Berkland of Thor, a former Eagle Grove citizen, and also the late Hans Berkland, were held in the Kubitschek & Kastler funeral home Sunday afternoon. She passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hans Berkland Friday morning after an illness lasting several months.

The sympathy of all is extended the relatives who live to mourn their loss.

Mrs. Anna Martha Hanson Berkland was born Feb. 14, 1848, in Lier, near Haugesund, Norway. There she was married to Mr. Andrew Berkland and the family came to U S A to Story county, Iowa, in 1884. In 1894 they moved to Eagle Grove, where Mr. Berkland passed away in June 1911. One son, Reinert, died Oct. 30, 1912 and another son, the late Hans Berkland died May 5, 1925.

Mrs. Berkland has been in poor health the last 25 years. She passed away quietly last Friday morning, Jan. 29. age 77 years, 11 months, and 14 days. She is survived by three sons, Andrew, Gudmund, and Henry. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also, by one brother.

It has been our privilege to minister to Mrs. Berkland the last eight years. We found her a devoted listener to God's word. She appreciated the salvation of Christ Jesus and confessed that she rejoiced to live and die in His salvation.
