Clarence Martin Gunderson
14 July 1896 ---- 4 May 1923Word was received here Saturday of the death of Clarence Gunderson at Kansas City Friday evening, May 4. Spinal meningitis was the cause. He had worked regularly at his position to the Saturday evening previous. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Gunderson of this city. The remains were brought to Eagle Grove and the funeral services were held at the home and in the United Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon. Th e interment was in Rose Hill cemetery. Rev. Severtson preached the funeral sermon, urging all to have a purpose, a program in life which squared up with the rock of Christian fellowship.
Obituary
Clarence Martin Gunderson was born at Eagle Grove, Iowa on July 14, 1896. He was baptized August 23, 1896, in the United Lutheran church and received Christian instruction and was confirmed in his baptismal covenant Nov. 26, 1911. He was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1914. With the breaking out of the World War he went to Canada, where he enlisted in the service of the British government and was assigned work in a munition’s factory, where he had the misfortune to lose his hand. He married Miss Beatrice Johnson of Minneapolis August 24, 1915. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive. Besides his wife and four children, Clarence is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Gunderson, his sister, Mrs. Wm. Midland, and three brothers, George, Joseph, and Oscar.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended the sorrowing relatives.
