Obert LeRoy “Roy” Larson
9 April 1916 ---- 28 September 1989

Obert L. "Roy" Larson was born April 9, 1916, in Worth County, a son of L. N. and Anna O. (Store) Larson. He was educated in Worth County schools and attended Waldorf Junior College, Forest City, graduating in 1936. He then attended, Luther College, Decorah. In 1967 he attended the Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking, Madison.

Mr. Larson was a commander of the U. S. Naval Reserve, from 1942 to 1945, serving in the Pacific. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He married Mary Lou McGrath on June 4, 1944, in Eagle Grove. He worked as an oil products retailer in Fort Dodge from 1939-40, then in Eagle Grove from 1940-41 and 1946-48. He then worked as an automobile dealer in Eagle Grove from 1948-56. He was an officer of Security Savings Bank, Eagle Grove 1956-66, and executive vice president, Farmers Trust and Savings Bank, Williamsburg, 1966-67. He was president and director of Farmers Trust and Savings Bank from 1967-81, chairman of the board, Farmers Trust and Savings Bank 1972-81, director of the Iowa Bankers and Insurance Services Inc. 1971-81, (chairman 1972-75). He retired from banking in 1981.

He was director of Iowa Independent Bankers Association, 1974-76; member of the American Independent Bankers Association; American Bankers Association; a charter member of the American Institute of Banking and member of Iowa Bankers People-to-People Mission to Soviet Union, 1971. He was vice president of the Wright County Fair Board, 1951-66; treasurer of Eagle Grove Community School Board, 1956-66; and treasurer and cofounder of Rotary Ann Home, Eagle Grove, 1962-66.

Mr. Larson had lived in Mason City for the past eight years. He was chairman of the River City Chapter 231 of SCORE, 1984-85; on the Board of Directors Stebens Children's Theater, Mason City; board of directors of North Central Chapter American Red Cross, Mason City; and member of the Mason City Zoning and Planning Commission. He also was a member of several service clubs.

Mr. Larson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

Obert L. "Roy" Larson, 73, died Thursday, September 28, 1989 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, of natural causes.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, Mason City; one daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Lynne) Eckhart, Mason City; one son, John Lauritz Larson, West Lafayette, Ind.; his mother, Anna O. Larson, Northwood; four grandchildren; two sisters, Ivanell McKissick, Irving, Texas; and Maynis; Aadmot, Northwood; and three brothers, Norman, Clear Lake; Royden, Woden; and Wallace, Forest City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Delmar L. Jacobson and the Rev. Randy Kasch officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
