5 August 1923 ---- 19 March 2002Mary Lou Larson died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 78 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lynne Eckhart, and husband, John, Mason City, Iowa; her son, John Larson, and wife, Suzanne, of West LaFayette, Ind.; four grandchildren; one sister, Martha Knutson, and husband, Bob, of Longville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, James W. McGrath, II, and in infancy, Harold McGrath.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21, at 10:30 a.m., at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with Reverend H. W. Schiller officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
Mary Lou McGrath, the daughter of Earl and Blanche (Smith) McGrath, was born on August 5, 1923, in Eagle Grove. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1941, and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She was united in marriage with Obert L. "Roy" Larson on June 4, 1944, at the Congregational Church in Eagle Grove. They lived in Eagle Grove until 1967, when they moved to Williamsburg, Iowa. In 1981, they retired to Mason City, Iowa. Her husband died in 1989. She moved back to Williamsburg in 1990, and then entered Rotary Ann in 1994. She was secretary to the principal and superintendent in the Eagle Grove Schools. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. She also served as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Eagle Grove; Maria Mitchell Study Club in Mason City; and P.E.O. in Mason City and Williamsburg.
Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
