George Law Webster
28 November 1854 ---- 10 October 1924The sad news announcing the death of George L. Webster reached Eagle Grove late Friday evening, he had been in poor health for about a month preceding his final illness. Apparently, he had recovered, but a week before his death he became decidedly worse and his death was expected by the relatives at his bedside.
The remains arrived at Eagle Grove Monday and were cared for at the Foil & Wilson undertaking chapel. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday.
Mr. Webster lived in Wright county thirty years and during that time his integrity, his honesty, and his reputation for fair dealing was never questioned. He was an influential pioneer in this county, and in his new home near Hines, Wis., he was recognized as a substantial, reliable citizen.
The Eagle joins his hosts of friends in Wright county in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
George Law Webster was born in Kendall county, Ill. Nov. 28, 1854. In 1882 he moved to Wright county, Iowa. On Oct. 1, 1884 he married Frances E. Baley and to them were born six children, three of whom are now living. He lived in Wright county for thirty-four years in the communities of White Fox, Woolstock, and Eagle Grove, the early part of these thirty-four years having been the pioneer period of the county. Almost from the beginning he engaged in business, first as a hay dealer and later as a grain dealer. He was in this business until 1908, when he was elected county treasurer of Wright county, to which office he was twice reelected.
In 1916 he moved to Douglas county, Wisconsin, where he again helped in building up a new community. It was there at his farm home at Fernwood Place that he passed to his eternal reward at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 1924.
He recognized and honored the Saviour in his life and was actively engaged in the promotion of the work of His Kingdom.
He is survived by his widow, Frances E. Webster, one son, Clarence H. Webster, Hines, Wis., two daughters, Mrs. Edna M. Nycum of Pittsburg. Pa., and Orpha M. Webster of New York City, four grandchildren, one brother, Charles B. Webster, Cleveland, Ohio., one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Walters, Presho, S.D., one half-sister, Mrs. Adella Darin, Phoenix, Ariz., and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Eagle Grove on Tuesday, in charge of Rev. E. A. Anderson, and the remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.
