John Vorrie, 83, of Thor, died Friday morning at Bethesda General Hospital, Fort Dodge, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor, in charge of Rev. Arthur Gronberg of Badger.

Mr. Vorrie is survived by his wife, three sons: Everett, Lorelle and Norbert, all of Thor, one daughter, Mrs. James Young of Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren and a brother, Oliver, of Humboldt. His brother Tom of Eagle Grove died about a month ago.

Mr. Vorrie farmed in the Thor area for many years, and after retiring in 1952, the family continued to reside at the farm home.

Obituary

John Vorrie was born October 6, 1886, at Skjold Haugesund, Norway, the son of Torger and Olena Hvidenas Vorrie.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Norway, where he also received his schooling.

He came to America at the age of 19 and worked as a farm tiler in the Thor area for a number of years. He was united in marriage on January 16, 1924, to Ida Sheldon of Thor and they farmed in the area till 1952, when he retired from active farming, but they continued to make their home on the farm.

In November 1969, he was a surgical patient at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. December 6, he returned home. When his condition became worse, he entered Bethesda General Hospital, Fort Dodge, on January 14, where he stayed till February 14, when he entered Friendship Haven Health Center. He again entered Bethesda General Hospital Tuesday, April 7, and died there on Friday morning, April 10, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 4 days.

He is survived by his wife Ida, three sons, Everett, Lorelle, and Norbert, all of Thor; one daughter, Frances (Mrs. James Young), Moline, Ill., four grandchildren, and a brother, Oliver, of Humboldt.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Nels, in 1929, a sister, Anna (Mrs. Guy Gjerstad) and a brother, Thomas, who passed away last month.

He was a veteran of World War I.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 13, at 2 pm. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church at Thor, with the Rev. Arthur Gronberg of Badger officiating. Burial was in Blossom Hill Cemetery near Badger.
