Henry E. Blum, 78, Expires; Rites Held Death Claims Local Native In Hospital as Result Of Accident

Henry E. Blum, 78 years of age, a native of Monticello [Wisconsin] and a resident of this community for about 20 years, passed away late Thursday night, Feb. 19, at a hospital in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, as a result of injuries which he received when he was struck by a car New Year’s day. A resident of the vicinity of Renwick, Iowa, since 1893, his condition grew gradually worse following the accident, in which he sustained a fractured leg and other injuries.

Henry E. Blum was born at Monticello June 16, 1873, the son of Henry and Katherine Blum. He attended rural school here. In 1893. he left for Renwick, Iowa, where he farmed until the family moved to that city in 1912. On Jan. 18, 1898, he was united in marriage to Emma Klassy. Mr. Blum was a member of the Renwick Evangelical United Brethren church. Mr. and Mrs. Blum had the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in January of this year.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Blum home. Burial was in the Lu Verne cemetery. Survivors include the widow; five daughters, Sylvia Blum, Mrs, Alma Anderson, Mrs. Ida Lucia, all of Iowa, Mrs. Grace Uhr, Great Falls, Mont.; two sons, Henry J. Blum, Renwick, and Walter Blum, Spencer, Iowa; four brothers, Fred A., John G., and Ed. Blum, Monticello, and George Blum, Woodstock, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Hoesly and Mrs. Ernest Dahler, New Glarus, and Mrs. Truman Long, Rockford, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
