Services Held
Final Rites Conducted in. Home; Local Pastor Officiates

Funeral services for Mrs. Fred C. Marty, 55 years of age, well known and highly esteemed resident of Washington township for many years, who passed away in her home early Saturday morning, September 3, 1938. were conducted at 2 Monday afternoon in the home. Rev. A. R. Achtemeier, pastor of the Monticello and Washington township Zwingli Reformed churches, officiated. Interment was in the Washington Church cemetery. Pallbearers, all nephews, were as follows: Willis Babler and Walter Tryon, Mt. Pleasant township; Harris Babler, Green Bay; Adrian and Morris Babler, Monroe; and Alvin Kelling, Goldfield, Iowa. [Burial records show her being interred in Monticello’s Highland Cemetery.]

When Mrs. Marty did not respond to calls for breakfast between 6:30 and 7 Saturday morning the members of the family proceeded to investigate and were met with a severe shock upon finding her body hanging in the attic of the home. Mrs. Marty had been in poor health for about a year and for the past weeks had appeared despondent at times.

Native of Mt. Pleasant, Lena Babler, daughter of Henry and Anna Blum Babler was born in Mt. Pleasant township on the 21st day of December, 1882. She attended the rural school of her district and on Feb. 15, 1906, she was united to Fred C. Marty, the ceremony taking place in Monticello. The couple followed the vocation of farming and since their marriage they had resided on a farm about five miles west of Monticello. Mrs. Marty was a member of the Washington Reformed church and a member of its Ladies' Aid society.
A Severe Shock Mrs. Marty’s untimely death came as a severe shock to her numerous friends and acquaintances, few of whom realized the seriousness of her condition. Not only was she a devoted wife and mother but an ideal neighbor as well, who had always been held in the highest regard by those whom she numbered among her acquaintances.

Surviving, besides the bereaved widower are one son, Lawrence, at home; her step-mother, Mrs. Henry Babler, Monticello; three brothers, Fred and Henry Babler, Monticello, and Jacob Babler. Argyle; one sister, Mrs. Anna Kelling, Goldfield, Iowa; three half-brothers, Herman Babler. Monticello, Clarence Babler, Richland Center, and Marvin Babler. Appleton; and two half-sisters, Mrs. K. J. Theiler, Madison, and Mrs. Jacob Freitag, Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ezra.
