Joseph Olai Johnson
3 September 1888 ---- 13 December 1952

Joseph Olai Johnson, who had farmed 16 years a mile west and a half-mile south of Thor, died suddenly of a heart attack Saturday morning at his farm home. He was 64 years of age. He had retired from active farming some years ago.

He is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Clarice, Mrs. C. C. Tucker, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Madora, Mrs. Roy Jeppson, Spencer, Iowa. Two sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Carrie Hill and Mrs. Mary Amdahl, both of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thor Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Johnson had been a member for many years. Rev. Olaf O. Brandt officiated. A male quartet whose members are, Henry Swartzendruber, Gerhard Sandvig, Lewis Wergeland, Jr., and Rev. Brandt.

Mrs. Alvin Thorson was organist and accompanied the quartet. Committal was at Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 3, 1888, at Eagle Grove. His parents were John and Isabel Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Holmes on March 28, 1915, he married Gertie Jergenson of Eagle Grove. They farmed for 18 years northeast of Eagle Grove. Then they moved to their present farm home southwest of Thor. There they have lived for the past 10 years, except for the period from August 1947 to March 1949. During this period, they lived in Eagle Grove.
