James Murray
12 October 1849 ---- 7 March 1919

James Murray was born at Marietta, Ohio, on October 12, 1849, and departed this life at the home of his son, Charles, in this place on Friday morning, March 7th, being nearly 69 and one half years of age.

The deceased has been in poor health for a number of years but was able to be about as usual until about one week ago. Mr. Murray lived for a number of years in the southern part of the state near New Virginia. For several years later he lived in this place and acted in the capacity of sexton at the cemetery. For the past two years the home has been at Laurens, Ia.

The deceased was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Baker in February of 1870. Six children were born to this union, one of whom died in early childhood. The surviving children are Mrs. Earl Snow of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Frank Brown of Laurens, Mrs. Frank Newman of Burt, and Charles and Hallie Murray of Eagle Grove. Besides the wife and children, the list of surviving relatives includes one brother, Mr. Will Murray of Corodon, Iowa, who was present at the time of departure.

These mourn one who was dear to them as husband, father, and brother. Many are the kind words of appreciation which are being spoken of this man. He seems to have had the happy faculty of making many friends among all ages and of inspiring others with confidence in his character. A large circle of friends sympathize most sincerely with the family in this hour of bereavement.

Funeral services were held in the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and interment, was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
