Funeral services for Andrew Nielsen, 84, were held from the Dows Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 30, 1987 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. John Mann officiated and burial was in the Dows Fairview Cemetery.

The Elledge Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Robert Larson was the organist and Glenn Evans was the vocalist.

Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Caruth, Everett Cundall, Stanley Denger, Walter Detmer, Fred Otteros, and William Wobbeking. Pallbearers were Darrell Ackerman, Borge Andersen, Harold Beyer, Wayne Kessel, Blaine Nickels and W.Z. Rout.

Andrew died Thursday, November 26, 1987 at the Dows Care Center where he has resided since February 21, 1985.

He was born August 17, 1903 in Ostermarie Barnholm, Denmark to Magnus and Anna Peterson Nielsen. He received his education and grew to manhood in Denmark. He served in the 5 AAI Calvery Battalion in Denmark.

In 1928 he arrived in the United States and settled in Illinois and later came to Iowa. He worked first as a truck driver and then took up farming in Dows. He was united in marriage to Marie Kienol at the Vernon Lutheran Church November 5, 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; eight children, Richard of Dows, Rodger of Madison, Wisconsin, Kenneth of Dows, Keith of Dows, Gary of Rowan, Mrs. Clinton (Mary) Anderson of Dows, Mrs. Dennis (Marlene) Stearns of Woodburn, Iowa and Larry of Fort Rucker, Alabama. Also surviving are six grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters in Denmark.

His parents and one brother, Emil preceded him in death.
