Obituary

MRS. HENRY KAMP
(Grace nee Ruiter Meinders Kamp)
Belmond, Iowa
June 14, 1939

Mrs. Henry Kamp, nee Grace Ruiter, was born on April 21, 1864, in Bunde, Eastfriesland, Germany. She was the second child of Friedrich and Elzena Ruiter. In the spring of 1882, she was united in marriage to Henry Meinders. Several months after their marriage her husband left for America to find a more comfortable home for themselves. A year later Mrs. Meinders and their little baby followed their husband and father, but the baby took sick on the ocean where he died and was also buried. They lived together at Forreston, Ill., until 1885 when they came to Belmond. They made their home on the farm east of Belmond for 32 years until they retired from active farming and settled down in Belmond. For nearly 45 years Mrs. Kamp was affiliated with Immanuel Reformed Church, also was active in the work of the Ladies Aid.

After a long and lingering illness her husband passed away in 1924. Four years later on September 27, 1928 she was again happily united in marriage to Henry Kamp. For nearly eleven years they shared in their mutual joys and sorrows. After an illness of two weeks, Mrs. Grace Kamp passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 1939 at 7 a.m. thus remaining the age of 75 years, one month and 23 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her bereft husband, Henry Kamp; two daughters, Mrs. Grace H. Pals and Mrs. Clara Vierkant; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Blank of Klemme and Mrs. Tom Wieman of Belmond; also one brother, Fred Ruiter of Belmond and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Reformed Church Friday, June 17, 1939, conducted by the Revs. O. G. Poppen and D. A. Plesscher. Several selections were rendered by a mixed quartet. Close neighbors and friends acted as pallbearers. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery in the family lot adjoining the church.
