DEATH’S HARVEST

Three Answer To Last Summons and Depart This Life.

John Matheson.

Monday forenoon the community was surprised and shocked to hear news of the sudden death of John Matheson, Sr.. Although Mr. Matheson has been in feeble health for the past few years, few knew that he was any worse and his taking away came unexpectedly. He had been ailing for a few days but was able to be down town Saturday and it was thought he was better. Monday morning his condition took a turn for the worst and he failed rapidly, passing away at about nine o'clock, the direct cause of bis death being neuralgia of the heart. Mr. Matheson was the oldest business man of the town, having conducted a blacksmith shop at this place for the past twenty-one years and has wide acquaintance in this locality, his honesty and square dealings together with a sympathetic and cheerful disposition have made him many friends who will miss his true character. In the home he was a kind husband and loving father, devoted to his family at all times, and his departure is a sad blow to them.

John Matheson was born in Worra, Oxford county, Canada, July 1, 1837, and died at Goldfield, Iowa, May 14, 1906, aged 68 years, 10 months, 14 days. He was one of a family of twelve children of whom two brothers and four sisters survive him. Mr. Mathison was the father of twelve children, four of whom died in infancy. He leaves a wife, eight children, four grandchildren two brothers and four sisters to mourn his departure. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church, and a firm believer in the Divine life.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Hoelscher preaching the sermon from the14th chapter of John a favorite scripture with the deceased. The business houses were closed and large number of friends attended the service to pay their respect to his honorable life. The remains were laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery.

A sister of tbe deceased, Mrs. John Murry, and husband of Toledo, and nephew, Robert Matheson of Reinbeck attended tbe funeral. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their sad hour.

DEATHS AT GOLDFIELD

Three of That City’s Residents Pass Away

Mr. John Matheson Sr., was taken ill with heart weakness on Sunday night and died on Monday morning.

While he had been in poor health for some time yet had been at his shop on Main street and the news of his death came as a shock to all. Funeral services at M. E. church at 2 p. m. on Tuesday, May 15.

Mr. Matheson had lived here long time and has an estimable wife and family with whom all will sympathize in this time of sorrow.
