Klaas William Pruisman, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 1994, at his home.
Klaas, the son of Emil and Grace (Cook) Pruisman, was born September 13, 1907, in Kanawha, Iowa. Klaas received his education and graduated from the Kanawha Public schools. He was very active in high school sports. On October 20, 1927, he was united in marriage to Eloise Trainer. The couple made their home in Kanawha where Klaas worked at the Farmer’s Coop Creamery as a churnman. He then purchased the cafe called The Sweet Shop. Klaas drove school bus and was janitor for the Kanawha Community School for many years.
Klaas was very active in the community serving as sexton of the Amsterdam Township Cemetery, was a member of the fire department, serving as assistant chief for many years. Klaas was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church. In May of 1955, Eloise passed away. After selling the cafe he worked for the City of Kanawha until he retired. On August 3, 1963 he was united in marriage to Maude Kirchner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Klaas then worked at the Carter Funeral Home and most recently at the Ewing Funeral Homes.
Survivors include his wife, Maude of Kanawha, Iowa; children: Jerry and his wife, Kathy Pruisman, Pine Island, Florida; Marlene and her husband, Robert Walter, Orland, Indiana; Glenn and his wife, Dolly Kirchner, Decorah, Iowa; Elizabeth and her husband, Darvin Hacker, Decorah, Iowa; and LaDonna and her husband, Ron Eckhardt, Mason City, Iowa; one brother Frank and his wife, Gertrude Pruisman, Belmond, Iowa; a sister-in-law Marian Pruisman, Mason City, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eloise; two brothers: Herman and John; a grandson; a daughter; an infant sister and an infant brother.
