MRS. A. STROM DIES THURSDAY IN HOSPITAL

Mrs. Andrew Strom, died Thursday in a Fort Dodge hospital where she had. been a patient since the evening before Mrs. Strom has been ill for some time suffering several strokes. She had also been hospitalized previously this winter.

She is survived by her husband, and four children, one son Kay of Clarion, and three daughters, Mrs. Justin Thebiay of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Milford Knutson of Clarion and Mrs. Bud Hanson of Clarion.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Evangelical Lutheran church in charge of the Rev. Kenneth Torvik. Kenneth Sandven sang, accompanied by Mrs. Gaylord Thompson.

Casket bearers were Harry Midland, Thomas Midland, Norris Olson, Bennie C. Jacobson, Alfred L. Jacobson and Lloyd Larson. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Obituary

Karen Johannah Erickson was born January 19, 1880 near Haugesund, Norway, to Mr. and Mrs. Erick Knutson. In 1897 she came with her parents to the United States. They resided for a time at Jewell, Iowa, coming to Eagle Grove about 1900.

November 25, 1903, she married Andrew Strom of Eagle Grove and has resided here ever since. To this union were born a son Kerner of Clarion, and three daughters Signa now Mrs. Justin Thebiay of Eagle Grove, Alice now Mrs. Milford Knutson of Clarion, and Myrtle now Mrs. Bud Hanson of Clarion. There are nine grandchildren. Her husband and all her children survive her.

Mrs. Strom was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church for more than fifty years and an active member of the Ladies Aid.

Two half-sisters and three half-brothers also survive her: Mrs. H. R. Bard, Eagle Grove: Mrs. Lloyd Lerdal, Belmond; Selmer Knutson, Eagle Grove: Madel Knutson, Eagle Grove; and Emil, Waterloo.

In poor health for the past few years, Mrs. Strom died after her third stroke, Thursday morning, December 27, 1951. She died happy in her Christian faith.

Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery.

Coordinator’s note: According to Skjold parish records, Karen Johannah Erickson was born at Skjold, Rogaland fylke, Norway on January 19, 1880 to Erick Andreas Knudsen Vatland and Sigrid Johannesdatter Brattestø. Her mother, Sigrid also known as Siri Johannesdatter, died August 15, 1883. Karen’s father remarried in 1888 in Norway to his second wife, Selle Matilde Torgersdatter Romseland and the family emigrated to America in 1890.
