September 16, 1897 --- November 16, 1964

KANAWHA - Alvin Arthur Hanson, 67, retired funeral director and businessman here, died Monday in a Belmond Hospital after a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church here.

For 37 years, Mr. Hanson operated the Hanson Funeral Home and a furniture store. The businesses were sold two years ago.

Born Sept. 16, 1897 at Thor, he came to Hancock in November 1910 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hanson. His parents were bankers at Kanawha.

After graduation from Kanawha High School, he attended Ellsworth College, Iowa Falls, and was graduated from Hohenschuh Carpenter College of Mortuary Science, St. Louis.

Mr. Hanson was married to Martha Schaper Nov. 1, 1930, at Canton, S.D. He was a member of Kanawha Methodist church and the IOOF and served in World War I.

He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Albert Tracy Clearwater, Fla., and a brother Elmer, Kanawha. Burial will be in Britt Cemetery, Britt.

The Carter Funeral Home here is in charge of arrangements.
