October 11, 1933 ---February 27, 2020

Marlowe Carroll Burr, age 86 of Clarion, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Clarion Wellness Center. He was born the middle of three children to parents Claude I. Burr and Anneva L. (Brownfield) Burr on October 11, 1933. Marlowe attended schools in Webster City and graduated with the class of 1951. During high school as an offensive end, Marlowe set a school record for the most intercepted passes (16) and was proud he could shoot basketballs both right and left-handed which gave him "almost full time action." He worked for his father at Burr Floor Service laying carpet, tile and linoleum until getting married on August 16, 1953, to Helen Stapp at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield Iowa.

From 1953-1955 Marlowe served in the US Army on the atomic cannon gun crew and following his honorable discharge the couple returned to Webster City. Marlowe continued to work with his father and the couple had three children, Diana, Nick & Peggy. In 1963 the family moved to the Chicago area where Marlowe worked for NW Airlines at O'Hare Airport and later the Kmart corporation. The family returned to Iowa in 1972 living in Eagle Grove when Marlowe accepted a transfer to the newly built Kmart store in Fort Dodge. Working the night shift in security and maintenance being the first employee hired, he was employee number one. Marlowe was a member of the Church of Christ and the National Poets society. He enjoyed writing poetry and had several of his poems published. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, walking "Dink" his cat, crossword puzzles, the Wheel of Fortune, popcorn, Dr. Pepper and smoking his pipe of Middleton cherry tobacco. Marlowe worked hard to provide for his family and his pride never revolved around material things, but could be measured in the relationships he held with our Heavenly Father, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He very much enjoyed attending their activities, sporting events and all of his own class reunions.

Marlowe is survived by his daughters, Diana Bachel of EG, Peggy Burres (Kevin) of EG, son Nick (Delphine) Burr of Pass Christian, MS; seven grandchildren Rodney (Ashley) Bachel, Bryan (Courtney) Bachel, Sheri (Lance) Hawley, Aaron (Beth) Burres, Megan (Joshua) Severson, Jenna (Zachary) Whipple, and Jared (Kelsey) Burres, eighteen great grandchildren and a sister Karen (Keith) Powell of Davenport, FL. He was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant brother Larry Gene and his son-in-law Thomas Bachel.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 2, 11:00 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Visitation is Sunday, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
