Minneapolis Man Dies in Crash Of Light Plan

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (AP)–A suburban Minneapolis man was killed Thursday when his private, single-engine airplane apparently went into a spin and crashed in a field less than one-half mile from the local airport.

The victim, James B. Knight, 40, Minnetonka, a planning consultant for Nason-Wehrman-Knight and Chapman, Inc., was en route to Detroit Lakes to meet with the city's planning commission.

Knight, who was alone in the plane, was taken by ambulance to a Detroit Lakes hospital but was dead on arrival.

Airport Manager Robert Lund said the wreckage of the plane came to rest about 150 yards from the runway. Lund said no one was at the airport when the accident occurred, and the cause was not known.
