Clyde Daniel Knight (1903-1991)

Clyde Daniel Knight was born February 9, 1903, the son of Thomas and Blanche Rowley Knight, at Goldfield. He received his education in the Goldfield school system, and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1921. He then entered Capital City Community College in Des Moines where he received a degree in Bookkeeping.

He was united in marriage to Alma Helmke of Renwick, on April 7, 1927, at Renwick The couple made their home in Des Moines where he drove a bread truck. They then moved to the Goldfield area, and took over the care of the family farm from his father.

He and his wife then moved to Wadena, Minn., for a time, before relocating to Des Moines where he worked for an appliance parts company. He continued with the same vocation in St. Louis Park, Minn., before retiring in 1968. They entered the Rotary Ann Retirement Home in 1988.

He was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church, and the Grand Lodge of Iowa. He served on the Goldfield City Council in the late 70s. In 1988, he received recognition, as Outstanding Senior Citizen of Wright County, for his active role in the Elderbridge Agency for the Aging, and with his help in coordinating the Wright County Support Group for families of Alzheimer's patients.

Clyde Knight died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home November 6, 1991, at the age of 88 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Bradley; and two grandchildren, Barry Dean and Bradley Joel.

He is survived by his wife, daughter-in-law, Evelyn Virginia Kraemer of Hopkins, Minn.; a brother, Gerald of Rowan; his grandchildren, Stephen, Bruce and Jeffrey Knight, and his great-grandchildren, Erika, James, Thomas, Elizabeth and Laura.

Funeral services were held November 9 at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. The Rev. James Seibert officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.

Kastler-Babcock Services of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
