Birdsall Carlson Rites Held

Birdsall Carlson, 52, Goldfield, died Sunday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. Mr. Carlson had been in failing health for two years. Death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Dr. Robert Dunn, Webster County Medical examiner.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with the Rev. Kay Mills officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and four children, Mrs. Don Flumerfelt, Eagle Grove; Ole, Goldfield; Emogene and Jerry, at home.

Other survivors include three brothers, Tillman, Clarion; Gordon, Kanawha; and Robert, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and six sisters, Mrs. Tilbert Thompson, Clarion; Mrs. Marion Birkland, Somers; Mrs. Burdette Thompson, Clarion; Mrs Bennie Jacobson, Goldfield; Mrs. Orville Olson, Greenbush, Minn.; and Mrs. Glenn McCormick, Sioux Falls, S. D.

Mr. Carlson was born near Kanawha and as a child moved to the Goldfield area. On Sept. 23, 1942 he married the former Dorothy Spangler, and the couple made their home in Goldfield.

Mr. Carlson was the owner-operator of a trucking business.

Funeral Wednesday For Birdsall Carlson

Birdsall Orville Carlson, 52, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the United Presbyterian Church with the pastor Rev. Kay Mills officiating Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.

Mr. Carlson died Sunday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Dodge where he was a patient but a few hours. He had been in failing health for some time.

Robert Blecker, county sheriff, said Carlson died of "a self inflicted gunshot wound." Apparently despondent over poor health he shot himself at his home in Goldfield about 7:00 a.m. Sunday and died about five hours later. Blecker said he does not yet have the official report from the Webster County medical examiner.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four children, Mrs. Donald Flumerfelt of Eagle Grove; Ole Carlson, Emogene and Jerry, Goldfield. He is also survived by three brothers, Tillman Carlson of Clarion; Gordon of Kanawha; Robert of Flagstaff, Ariz., six sisters, Mrs. Tilbert Thompson, Clarion, Mrs. Marion Birkland, Somers, Mrs. Burdette Thompson, Clarion, Mrs. Bennie Jacobson, Goldfield, Mrs. Orville Olson, Greenbush, Minn, and Mrs. Glenn McCormick, Sioux Falls, S. D.
