Virgil Franklin Tate was born January 31, 1916 near Noble, Ill., to Lewis and Dora (Bullard) Tate. Virgil moved to Iowa at the age of four with his parents and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. On December 30, 1940 he was united in marriage to Ruby McPeak in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed northeast of Renwick until Virgil retired in 1983. He also was employed for seven years at Wilson Produce Company in Eagle Grove.
Virgil was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, was Worshipful Master in 1985 of Viona Lodge 538, A. F. & A. M., Renwick, was a director of the Hawkeye Bank & Trust in Humboldt, and had served on the following boards: Farmers Cooperative of Renwick, Boone Valley Cooperative Processing Assoc., of Eagle Grove, Farmland Insurance Company of Des Moines and the Kanawha Co-op Oil Company of Kanawha.
Virgil F. Tate died December 28, 1988 at Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 72.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sons, Ron and Reggie, and two grandsons, Kerry and Stacy Tate.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; one daughter, Mrs. David (Janelle) Oneal of Adel; and one son, Verle Tate and wife Pam of Goldfield; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Dorothy) Thompson of Gravois Mills, Mo.; Anna Mae Moser, Lake Mills; and Gertrude Allie of Lake Mills; two brothers, Paul Dasch, Goldfield, and Howard Dasch, Corwith.
Funeral services were held at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, Iowa on Saturday, December 31, 1988 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Tony Brandt, officiating at the services.
Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Renwick, Iowa.
