Wilmer Johnson was born May 14, 1870 at Green Bay, Wis., and died Feb. 18, 1949 at his home in Eagle Grove. He had been in failing health since he was injured in a fall two years ago. His condition became critical two weeks ago. He came with his parents in early boyhood to Walnut, Iowa and later lived in South Dakota, where he worked as a bridge carpenter and afterward as a brakeman on the Dakota division of the C&NW railroad. In 1898 he came to Eagle Grove and was employed as a locomotive fireman for the same railroad and was promoted to the position of engineer in 1902 and continued in this work until Dec. 1, 1938, when he retired.

He was married to Miss Maye Franks of Tama, on Sept. 23, 1903. They became the parents of two sons, the first dying in infancy. He is survived by the widow and one son, Robert W. Johnson of St. Paul, one sister, Marie Johnson, and a brother, George E. Johnson of Puyallup, Wash. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
