Mrs. John Whyte Sr. Died Tuesday A. M. In Goldfield Home

Services For Her To Be Conducted Friday Afternoon

Mrs. John S. Whyte Sr., 68, died at 7:55 a. m. Tuesday in the Whyte home at Goldfield. She underwent surgery at Rochester, Minn., Aug. 23, which was unsuccessful.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whyte are to be conducted by the Rev. C. G. McKnight at 2 p. m. Friday in the home and at 2:30 p. m. in the United Presbyterian church at Goldfield. Interment is to be in Glenwood cemetery there.

Mrs. Whyte was born at North Platte, Neb., January 25, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Acker MacEachron. She accompanied her parents to Goldfield when she was a girl. They later moved to Waterloo.

She and John S. Whyte were married at Waterloo April 12, 1909. They lived in Goldfield since that time. They were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Forest [Forrest] Bennet [Bennett] of Corwith, Mrs. Joe Pojman of Austin, Texas, and two sons Robert S. Whyte and John Whyte Jr. of Goldfield.

Mr. White, their sons and daughters, six grandsons, Stephen, Michael, Jon and Scott Whyte of Goldfield, Richard and Forest [Forrest] Bennet [Bennett] Jr. of Corwith, and John Pojman of Austin, Texas, four granddaughters Sandra Whyte of Goldfield, Sharon Bennet [Bennett] of Corwith, Penelope and Ruth Ann Pojman of Austin, Texas, and a brother Scott MacEachron of Portland, Ore., survive her.

Mrs. Whyte was state recording, secretary of the Women's Christian Temperance Union several years. She was president of the Goldfield chapter of the American Red Cross during World War I. She was a past president of the Women's General Missionary Society at Goldfield and was a member of the United Presbyterian church.

Mrs. J. S. Whyte Buried Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. John Whyte, who died Tuesday of last week after several months illness, were held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the United Presbyterian church at 2:30, with Rev. C, G. McKnight officiating, Music was by Mrs. Merle Harvey, organist, and Mrs. Milton Nelson and Mrs. David Noble. Pallbearers were Devere Keister, Leslie Paine, Howard Stevenson, Duane Field, Everette McCutcheon, John Stevenson, all cousins. Ushers were James B, and Larry Stevenson, cousins. The flower committee of the church, Mrs. James Darland, chairman, served.

Obituary

Ruth MacEachron Whyte was born January 25th , 1886, In Franklin, Neb., the daughter of Acker and Finette MacEachron. Her childhood was spent in Oak Park, III. She moved to Goldfield with her parents in 1900, She was graduated from the Goldfield High School in 1901, after which she attended Coe College and Grinnell College.

She moved with her parents to Waterloo and on April 12, 1909, was united in marriage with John S. Whyte at the First Congregational church at Waterloo, To this union was born four children, Harriett, Elizabeth, Robert and John Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Acker MacEachron, one brother, Paul N. MacEachron, and one sister, Harriett MacEachron [Thompson].

She passed away on November 9, 1954, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, 14 days. Mrs. Whyte leaves to mourn her death, her husband, John S. Whyte, Sr., two sons, Robert S. and John S. Jr. of Goldfield, two daughters, Harriett A. (Mrs. Forrest Bennett) of Corwith, and Elizabeth F. (Mrs. Joseph Pojman) of Austin, Texas, Mr. Whyte’s mother, Agnes W. Whyte of Goldfield, ten grandchildren, Forrest Jr., Richard and Sharon Bennett of Corwith, Ruth Ann, Penelope and John Pojman of Austin, Texas, Sandra, Scott, Michael and Steve Whyte of Goldfield; a brother, Scott A. MacEachron of Portland, Ore,; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Paul N. MacEachron of Des Moines; and Mrs. Scott A. MacEachron of Portland, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Mr. William D. Thompson of Port Huron, Mich., and many other relatives and friends,

Mrs. Whyte united with the church at an early age and was an active member of the United Presbyterian church. She served as an officer and worker in many church organizations and at the time of her death was President of the Women's Missionary society. She was Recording Secretary of the W.C.T.U. of Iowa for several terms, besides working in the local unit, an officer of the American Red Cross during World War I; member of the D.A.R., American Legion Auxiliary. She also was interested in all local civic and philanthropic projects.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 12th, at the Presbyterian church in Goldfield with Rev. C. G. McKnight officiating. Interment was held on the family lot in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.

Special music for the service was provided by Mrs. David Noble and Mrs. Milton Nelson, organist was Mrs. Merle Harvey.

Casket Bearers were Leslie Paine, John Stevenson, Duane Fields, Devere Keister, Howard Stevenson, and Everett McCutcheon.
