Elizabeth Mathews Martin
10 May 1852 --- 24 September 1938

Mrs. Elizabeth Mathews Martin, mother of Mayor J. H. Martin died at her home in this city Saturday, Sept. 24th, at 4:30 p. m. Burial services were held at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral Home Monday afternoon with the Rev. J. R. Tumbleson in charge. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Obituary
Elizabeth Mathews was born in New Jersey, May 10, 1852. After her marriage the family engaged in farming in Illinois, North Dakota, and back to Illinois, residing many years on a farm near Glidden, Iowa. She moved to Marshalltown where she resided for a number of years, and five years ago moved to Eagle Grove where she made her home with her son, Harry Martin, in the apartments over the Martin store.

Three sons survive. They are: Mayor J. H. Martin and Harry of Eagle Grove, and Mahlon Martin of Marshalltown. All were present at the funeral.
