George Conger Whyte was born December 20, 1916, the son of George Henry and E. Gertrude Conger Whyte, at Goldfield. He attended Goldfield Schools and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1934. He was united in marriage to Pearl S. Hovland on April 13, 1939 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Goldfield where Conger operated Whyte Motor Company (Ford Garage). He later owned and maintained the Goldfield school buses as well as having been a bus driver for many years.
Mr. Whyte had served as Wright County Supervisor for 22 years before suffering a debilitating stroke on December 14, 1988. He had been on the Goldfield City Council and was a past mayor of the town. He was also a 50-year member of the Goldfield Fire Department He was a longtime member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church.
G. Conger Whyte died in his home on June 4, 1994, the same home in which he was born. He had attained the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 14 days. Whyte was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Goldfield; son, George C. Whyte of Webster, S.D.; daughters, Maureen Cameron of Goldfield, Margaret Freeman of Council Bluffs, and Nancy Danielson of Jupiter, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Richardson of Kingman, Ariz, and Margaret Whyte of Lacey Wash.
Funeral services for G. Conger Whyte were held on Wednesday, June 8, 1994 at the Goldfield United Methodist Church. The Reverend James Rozendaal and Stanley Watne officiated the 2:00 p.m. service. The burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Willim Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
