Three Persons Hurt in Auto Crash Near Traer
(Courier News Service)TRAER – A rural Traer man, John Axon, 65, was reported in critical condition at a Waterloo hospital Tuesday with massive injuries incurred when his car collided head-on with another north of Traer Monday night.
Axon suffered a crushed chest, a fractured leg and lacerations as a result of the collision three miles north of Traer on Highway 63 about 7 p.m. Monday.
The Tama County sheriff's office identified the driver of the other car as Harold J. Sievers, 71, of Traer. Sievers and his wife, Alida, 66, were both injured and were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo. Sievers was reported Tuesday in good condition with facial lacerations and Mrs. Sievers was reported fair with a fractured nose and lacerations. Axon was taken to Schoitz Memorial Hospital.
Authorities said the Axon car was apparently southbound in the wrong lane when the car crashed head-on with the northbound Sievers auto.

TRAER – John Axon, 65, died Friday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Traer. Burial at 2:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.
Survivors are his wife, Irene; three step-sons, Dennis Liter, of Marshalltown, Donald Liter, of Ames, and Ronald Liter, of Arkansas; a daughter, Lorraine Dekryif, of Britt; a step-daughter, Mrs. Cris Anderson, of Altoona; a sister, Leu Margaret Milota, of Davenport; and seven grandchildren.

John Axon burial rites held here
Burial services for John Axon, 65, of Traer were held here Tuesday afternoon at Glenwood Cemetery. The funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Methodist Church, Traer.
Mr. Axon died Friday in Shoitz Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, where he had been hospitalized following an automobile accident about a. month ago.
His brother, Roy Axon, died here just two weeks ago.
Mr. Axon was born in Goldfield and attended, schools here and farmed in this community. Later he farmed in the Vincent – Fort Dodge and Britt areas before moving to Traer.
He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Liter; daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Dekrif of Britt; step-daughter, Mrs. Chris Anderson, Altoona; step-sons, Dennis Liter, Marshalltown; Donald, Ames; and Ronald in Arkansas; seven grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Milota of Davenport.
